Building: Bolton Corliss Engine - Grandholm Mills' Photographer: 'G N' Date: 'May 1965' 1965 view of Bolton Corliss engine inside Grandholm Mills, Aberdeen Grandholm Mills was one of the few textile factories to survive the economic crisis of the 1840s and 1850s when Aberdeen's textile industry collapsed. This Boulton Corliss engine supplied [????all of the] power to drive the machinery in the mill.[need more info on the engine - steam or electric? Coal fired?] An economic crisis during the 1840s and 1850s slowed Aberdeen's population growth and caused the collapse of the local textile industry. It was replaced by newer industries in 1860s, and once again the population grew rapidly. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
