Scope and Content Early 20th-century group photograph showing workers with tools from the Sandilands Chemical Works, Aberdeen Sandilands Chemical Works was one of the new factories serving new industries that sprang up to replace the Aberdeen textile industry which collapsed during the economic crisis of the 1840s and 1850s. This early 20th century group photograph shows the workers with their tools. An economic crisis during the 1840s and 1850s slowed Aberdeen's population growth and caused the collapse of the local textile industry. It was replaced by newer industries in 1860s, and once again the population grew rapidly. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
