Scope and Content Fort at Mollins, East Dunbartonshire This Roman fort is at Mollins. It is built at the W end of a low ridge, on the S bank of the Luggie Water. It is almost equidistant from Cadder and Castlecary. The fort probably only had a single period of occupation. This is an aerial view of the site. The layout of the fort can be partially seen as a series of crop marks, with the SE corner visible below the modern road junction. To the right (W) of the fort is an annexe, 35 m long, just above the bend in the river. The site was discovered in 1977 through aerial photography and trial excavations were undertaken in 1977 and 1978. Finds include pottery of the period AD 60-69. The fort may be one of the praesidia built across the Forth-Clyde isthmus by Agricola c AD 81. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
