Scope and Content Fort at Ladyward, Dumfries and Galloway This Roman fort is at Ladyward. It is built on the left bank of Dryfe Water, near its confluence with the Annan. Part of the fort, including an annexe, has been lost due to erosion, but what remains suggests two periods of use or rebuilding. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen as a series of cropmarks at the centre of the image. The defences consisted of 5 ditches. There was an annexe to the NW, but this has mostly been lost due to erosion.
