Kilbirnie Loch 3 logboat

SC 352837

Description Kilbirnie Loch 3 logboat

Catalogue Number SC 352837

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 36040 PO

Scope and Content Logboat from Loch of Kilbirnie (no. 3), North Ayrshire The logboat (otherwise known as a 'dugout' or 'canoe') is a simple and 'primitive' boat, but this does not imply that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date. This crudely constructed and asymmetrical logboat is one of four found following disturbance of the lochbed through slag-dumping. It has been worked with metal tools and is now in Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
