Eadarloch logboat

SC 352829

Description Eadarloch logboat

Catalogue Number SC 352829

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 35999 PO

Scope and Content Possible logboat from Eadarloch, Loch Treig, Highland The logboat (otherwise known as a 'dugout' or 'canoe') is a simple and 'primitive' boat, but this does not imply that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date. This object was found near a crannog when building a reservoir. Now in the Museum at Fort William, it is typical of those finds that can only be tentatively identified as a logboat, an alternative identification as a timber-skid having been suggested.
