Scope and Content Broch at Clickhimin, Lerwick, Shetland This broch is built on a promontory on the Loch of Clickhimin. It would have originally stood on a rocky islet connected to the mainland by a causeway, but the water-level was lowered during the 19th century. It is a multi-period site. This is a view showing the detail of a staircase in the broch. The stair is built within the galleries between the inner and outer walls of the broch, and gives access to upper levels and the roof. Finds from the site include many domestic utensils and pottery. There was also a fragment of glass from a Roman bowl. This bowl was probably made in Alexandria in Egypt around AD 100. All the finds are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
