Scope and Content Plans and section of grain-mill at Machrimore, Argyll and Bute The grain-mill at Machrimore was built in 1839 and is typical of 19th-century water-powered vertical mills. One of the last two working water-mills in Kintyre, it went out of service in the 1950s. Soon afterwards, most of its machinery was removed. Grain was dried on the drying-floor, then raked into the grain-bin (B), bagged (C), and hoisted to the top floor. It was then tipped into a hopper leading to one of three pairs of stones depending on quality required. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
