Description General view of mill complex from South West including No.1 and No.3 Mills

Catalogue Number SC 345237

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of RE 704

Scope and Content View of Ferguslie Mills, Paisley, Renfrewshire Ferguslie Mills, now demolished, were built between 1826 and 1858 and driven by steam engines. This shows mill 1 with the roof-tops of mill 2 behind. The engine-houses in the centre of each mill were designed as architectural features. Engine-houses were often emphasised by architects, either by placing them on one end or in the centre of a mill, or by building them into separate buildings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
