Scope and Content Detail of pilaster capital on Houldsworth's Cotton Mill in City of Glasgow Houldsworth's Cotton Mill was built in 1804-5 and is important because it was one of the first mills to built with fire safety in mind. Despite being a brick-built industrial building, the mill is decorated in Neoclassical style with huge flattened columns or 'pilasters' with finely moulded bases and capitals.
