Scope and Content Symbol stone known as Dunrobin 1 at Dunrobin, Sutherland, Highland This symbol stone was found 300 m from Dunrobin Castle. The stone was a capstone for a cist. This contained the skeletons of two adult males. It is now on display in Dunrobin Castle Museum. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. The top symbol is a salmon. Below this is a tuning fork and a mirror-and-comb. The freshness of the carvings suggest that the stone was used as a capstone shortly after it was initially carved. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
