Scope and Content Forge with cylindrical bellows inside smithy at Machrimore, Strathclyde The smithy at Machrimore was built as part of the estate and was in use until the late 1960s. This picture of the middle forge shows the blacksmith working the cylindrical bellows. These were more efficient than the pear-shaped bellows because they worked like a concertina and could be operated from the forge using the long lever. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
