Scope and Content Symbol stone known as the Salmon Stone from Hillhead of Clatt, Aberdeenshire This symbol stone was found buried deep underground near the farm of Hillhead of Clatt. In now stands in a shelter by the East Garden in the grounds of Leith Hall near Insch. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. There are the remains of two symbols carved on it. At the top is the lower part of a fish, probably a salmon. Below this is an arch. The stone was originally 1.2 m by 0.6 m but was trimmed down to be used as a flagstone. The upper part of the fish was probably lost when the stone was trimmed Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
