Scope and Content Broch at Clickhimin, Lerwick, Shetland This broch is built on a promontory on the Loch of Clickhimin. It would have originally stood on a rocky islet connected to the mainland by a causeway, but the water-level was lowered during the 19th century. It is a multi-period site. This is a view of the site showing the blockhouse. A wall was built enclosing the entire islet and this guarded the entrance. The central entrance passage had a guard cell on either side. One can still be reached via the original staircase. Finds from the site include many domestic utensils and pottery. There was also a fragment of glass from a Roman bowl. This bowl was probably made in Alexandria in Egypt around AD 100. All the finds are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
