Scope and Content Ground-floor plan of Stranraer Town-house, Dumfries and Galloway Stranraer Town-house replaced a ruinous tolbooth on the same site. Lack of funds prevented the rebuilding of the next-door church. Instead an extra 'four or five foots' were added to The town-house steeple. A new town-hall replaced the town-house in 1874. A blocked window in the west wall of the ground floor probably belonged to the original cell. The block at the rear was a corn exchange and court-room. It was built in 1855, replacing an 1802 market-house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
