Description First floor plan Preparatory drawing for 'Tolbooths and Town-Houses', RCAHMS, 1996. N.d.

Collection Records of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS), Edinbu

Catalogue Number SC 337421

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of DC 29599

Scope and Content First-floor plan of West Wemyss Tolbooth, Fife West Wemyss Tolbooth probably replaced an earlier building serving the burgh of barony. An inscription in the steeple's south wall once read: THIS FABRIC WAS BUILT BY EARL DAVID WEMYSS & TOWN FOR THE CRIBBING OF VICE AND SERVICE TO THE CROWN. Little survives of the interior. The first floor, originally partitioned, is now one large room. However, the west portion retains a late 18th-century style decorated ceiling. The fireplaces in the east wall suggest that there were two east rooms. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
