Scope and Content Temporary camps at Pennymuir, Scottish Borders The remains of four temporary Roman Camps are at Pennymuir. It is thought that they were training bases, with the troops staying in tents. The largest camp could have held two legions - about 6000 men. The camps may also represent basic marching camps. This plan shows the forts. Camp D is badly eroded and the second camp, C, is trapezoidal in form. The third, A, is the largest and most complete. The fourth camp, B, is inside the third. Both of these have six entrances with banks in front of them. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
