Scope and Content Broch at Edinshall, Scottish Borders This broch is built within the remains of an earlier fort at Edinshall. In the late 18th century the site was known as Wooden's Hall (or Castle) after Woden or Odin. It has also been linked to the folktale of Red Etin. This is a view of the entrance passage of the broch. It shows one of the guard cells which protected it. The passage is 4.9 m long. In the background can be seen the entrance to one of the cells which leads off the courtyard. In Roman times, this area belonged to the tribe known as the Votadini, who appear to have had a peaceful relationship with Roman authority.. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
