Scope and Content Fort known as Brown Caterthun, Angus The two hillforts known as Brown Caterthun and White Caterthun are fine examples of the skill prehistoric man possessed in building and engineering. A large workforce must have been needed to provide the timber and quarry stone for the forts. This is a plan of Brown Caterthun. The outer defences, a pair of ramparts with an outer ditch, are built a little below the actual summit of the hill. A second pair of ramparts and a ditch surround the main enclosure formed by a 7 metre wide wall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
