Scope and Content Elevation of Kilbarchan Steeple, Renfrewshire Kilbarchan Steeple originated when the principal heritor, James Milliken, suggested adding it to the proposed village school. In 1782 the school was replaced by a new main block with a larger school-room. Only the left-hand corner of the main block is the same date as the steeple. It contained a Ladies' Room on the first floor and a meal market beneath. The bell was cast by Thomas Mears of London in 1811. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
