Scope and Content Stone circle at Croft Moraig, Perth and Kinross The stone circle at Croft Moraig lies by the side of the road. Excavations have shown there to be three main phases of construction starting with an arrangement of timber posts. This is a view of the stone circle. This replaced an earlier monument which consisted of a setting of timber posts. The first stone circle was then replaced by a slightly larger one. The site was excavated in 1965. The earlier stones were placed in shallow sockets packed with pebbles. The ground surface contained a large amount of Neolithic pottery sherds. Two burial pits lay just outside the latest circle but there were no remains. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
