Scope and Content Cell door inside tower of Aberdeen Tolbooth, City of Aberdeen Aberdeen Tolbooth was built in the 17th century and modified during the next three centuries along with the surrounding buildings. Only the tower or 'wardhouse' survives from the original building. Each of the second and third-floor cells in the tower or 'wardhouse' have iron-bound timber doors with elaborate bolts and padlocks. They also have stone-flagged floors and narrow windows, and some are equipped with a grille. All the cell fittings probably date from before 1831 because in that year a new prison-block was added behind the court-house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
