Scope and Content Cell with manacles inside tower of Aberdeen Tolbooth, City of Aberdeen Aberdeen Tolbooth was built in the 17th century and modified during the next three centuries along with the surrounding buildings. Only the tower or 'wardhouse' survives from the original building. Sets of manacles survive in all three cells on the third floor of the tolbooth's tower or 'wardhouse'. The floors are stone-flagged and some of the narrow windows still have a grille. All the cell fittings probably date from before 1831 because in that year a new prison-block was added behind the court-house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
