Scope and Content Steeple of Stirling Town-house, Stirling Stirling Town-house replaced a medieval tolbooth on the same site. Funding came from the Malt Tax. 'Hyeland oak trees' were used for the spire, and 'Fyne French glass' was ordered for the windows. The roof required repeated repairs. The belfry houses two bells. One, made by Ouderoggeof Rotterdam in 1656 is inscribed: THE CONSVL BELL OF STERLINE. The other bears an inscription recording its manufacture by Peter Hemony in Amsterdam in 1669. The building on the corner to the extreme right of the picture is the prison block containing the court-house and jail.. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
