Scope and Content Kinross Steeple, Perthshire and Kinross Kinross Steeple was built at the same time as the next-door church. Kinross was not a burgh, so a committee of locals oversaw the work and ran the town until it became a police burgh in 1864. A privately built town hall replaced the church in 1841. Construction took 16 years to thanks to lack of funds. The 1814 bell replaced one cracked during 'public rejoicing' which caused 'some altercation'. The maker's death delayed delivery of the clock donated by Sir John Bruce in 1761 and replaced in 1875. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
