Scope and Content Broch of Borwick, Orkney The Broch of Borwick is very well placed. It stands on a precipitous headland close to a source of fresh water and a landing-area for boats. There was originally a protective wall on the landward side. This is a view of the broch showing its location on the headland surrounded on three sides by cliffs. The seaward half of the structure has been destroyed by erosion. Excavations in the 19th century uncovered traces of outbuildings. They also found artefacts including combs that suggest that the site was still in use up to the mid 1st millennium AD. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
