Scope and Content Stone circle and standing stones at Callanish, Isle of Lewis, Western Isles The stones at Callanish form one of the most impressive prehistoric monuments in Scotland. Built on the E shore of Loch Roag they comprise of a stone circle with four radiating rows of standing stones. There is also a chambered cairn within the circle. This is a view of the stone circle. It consists of 13 stones of local gneiss some of which are up to 3.5 m high. Inside is a central monolith, 4.75 m high, and a chambered cairn. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
