Scope and Content Broch at Edinshall, Scottish Borders This broch is built within the remains of an earlier fort at Edinshall. In the late 18th century the site was known as Wooden's Hall (or Castle) after Woden or Odin. It has also been linked to the folktale of Red Etin. This is a view of the broch. This style of building is more common in the N of Scotland. Guard chambers lie on either side of the wide entrance passage. Within the walls are a number of cells and galleries. There are also the remains of two staircases. In Roman times, this area belonged to the tribe known as the Votadini, who appear to have had a peaceful relationship with Roman authority..
