Scope and Content Broch of Borwick, Orkney The Broch of Borwick is very well placed. It stands on a precipitous headland close to a source of fresh water and a landing-area for boats. There was originally a protective wall on the landward side. This is a close up view of the wall of the broch. It shows the entrance with is lintel and the well-faced outer wall. The entrance passage still has its guard cell on the N side. Excavations in the 19th century uncovered traces of outbuildings. They also found artefacts including combs that suggest that the site was still in use up to the mid 1st millennium AD. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
