Scope and Content Ayr Town House ('Town's New Buildings'), South Ayrshire The Town House was built near the High Tolbooth which it replaced. The building stone came from Cullaloe in Fife through the Forth Clyde Canal at a special cheap rate. The completion was celebrated with an inaugural ball in November 1830. The oldest part of the Buildings is on New Bridge street. The architect, Thomas Hamilton, used the way the site slopes to make the part that the Assembly-Room occupies more prominent than the rest of the building. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
