Scope and Content Cell door and yett inside Auchtermuchty Town-House, Fife Auchtermuchty Town-House was built in 1728 after, the burgh council decided they needed a 'good tolbooth with a clock and bell and steeple for containing the same'. It was paid for by borrowing from local tradesmen and the kirk session. One of the original cells survives at the back of the ground floor. It still has its yett and strong door to keep the prisoners inside. The ceiling is reinforced with metal sheeting. There used to be second cell on the left of this one.
