Scope and Content Falkirk Town Steeple, Falkirk Falkirk Town Steeple replaced a 1697 steeple, part of the original tolbooth. The main block had been sold off and demolished in 1803. The resulting subsidence forced the demolition of the old steeple and triggered a ten-year legal battle. The steeple is unaltered except for repairs after a lightning strike in 1927. One bell was cast by Thomas Mears of London in 1816 with a motto: MAY FALKIRK FLOURISH 1815, the other by John C Wilson of Glasgow in 1892. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
