Scope and Content Arms of King James VII and II inside council-chamber of Dunbar Town-house, East Lothian Dunbar Town-house built after 1593 when the inhabitants were ordered to cart stones from the quarry at Innerwick 'for the bigging of the Tolbuth'. It replaced an earlier tolbooth so ruinous that once a court was held in the churchyard. The coat of arms of James VII and II is painted over the north fireplace in the council-chamber. It is part of the 1686 work done by Alexander Mackbyth, when he decorated the entire room. He also painted the sundials on the steeple. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
