Scope and Content Coal Preparation plant, Seafield Colliery, Kirkcaldy, Fife Seafield Colliery was sunk by the National Coal Board in 1954-66. It was one of five new super-pits and, in its heyday in 1970, employed 2,466 people. It was closed in 1988. This shows the Coal Preparation Plant, made by Simonacco of Carlisle in the 1960s. Coal passes by conveyor through the covered gantry (foreground) to be processed, washed and sorted in the plant, prior to sale and distribution. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
