Scope and Content View of The Director's Room, Glasgow School of Art, No 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow This striking view of the director's room of the Glasgow School of Art, photographed in 1910 by Harry Bedford Lemere, shows one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's first white interiors which heralded the sparse, considered interiors of the 20th century. The room is divided into a main area, with a high ceiling, and an arched window area, placed asymmetrically within the vaulted space. The room's cornice sweeps down to the window area which has echoes of a Scottish castle's deep window embrasures. The main area of the room was intended for discussion, and Mackintosh originally designed a circular table and matching set of chairs for use here. The arched window area was where the first director of the new School, Francis Newbery, worked at his desk. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
