Scope and Content Antique Modelling Room (Studio 18), Glasgow School of Art, No 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow This view of the antique modelling room, a large basement room in the Glasgow School of Art, was taken in 1910 by Harry Bedford Lemere. It was one of three inter-connected, north-facing studios dedicated to antique, life and ornament modelling. The room, shown here by Lemere set up with easels and tables for antique modelling, was used by evening classes. It has an electric light system with lights running on pulleys to allow them to be positioned directly over each working space. The architect of the School, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, utilised many new technologies of the time to create tall, airy studios, warmed by hot air issuing from grilles in the walls, vented by shafts to the roof, and lit in the evening by electricity.
