Scope and Content Small Bedroom, Inglewood, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Clackmannan Inglewood, built in 1900 for a local industrialist, A P Forrester Paton, was designed by the Edinburgh architect, Sydney Mitchell. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, photographed the interior shortly after the house was completed. The room has Art Nouveau hangings around the bed and matching wallpaper to door height. The white painted units, punctuated by shelves for books or bric-a-brac and little cabinets for china, are good examples of contemporary fitted furniture for bedrooms. At the turn of the 20th century fitted bedroom furniture became increasingly popular, particularly in smaller rooms on account of its economical use of space. The units usually had a painted finish, and a flat surface that could be used as a washstand. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
