Scope and Content Recorded on the mounted print: 'Scottish National Buildings Record. Shire: Fife. Place: Pittenweem. Building: Harbour, East Shore and Gyles. Photographer: F.B. Date: July 1963'. Entrance to inner harbour, Pittenweem Harbour, Pittenweem, Fife Pittenweem Harbour was begun after 1541 to replace the earlier Boat Haven as the base for an expanding fishing fleet. Its piers have been rebuilt, repaired and extended at various times because of storm damage, and to meet the changing needs of the burgh. The inner harbour is formed by the west pier which was rebuilt in 1822 (left) and the much-repaired 17th-century east pier (right). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
