Scope and Content Cross-slab from Old Parish Church, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire This fragment of a cross-slab was found buried near the doorway of the old parish church of Aboyne. For a while it stood by the SW tower of Aboyne Castle and is now on display at Inverurie Museum. This is a view of the stone. It has a mirror symbol carved on it. There are also ogam inscriptions which read MAQQoi TALLUORRH and NAHHTVROBBACCAANNEVV. The MAQQ may mean 'son of'. The church was dedicated to St Adamnan. It was granted to the Knights Templer by Alexander II on the 15th April 1242. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
