Scope and Content Reconstruction of Lerwick Tolbooth, Shetland Islands Lerwick Tolbooth was built by the Commissioners of Supply with the approval of Lord Morton. Funding came from local sources including ship-wrecks and the Morton Masonic Lodge in return for the use of a room. A new town hall was built in 1882. Balls and Masonic meetings took place on the top floor which also held two cells. Beneath was a court-room, and a schoolroom which became a sheriff-clerk's office around 1825. There were two cells in the basement. A new town hall was built in 1882. Built 1767; steeple 1772; steeple removed 1927 Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
