Scope and Content Reconstruction of Aberdeen Tolbooth (around 1620), City of Aberdeen Aberdeen Tolbooth was built in the 17th century and modified during the next three centuries along with the surrounding buildings. Only the tower or 'wardhouse' survives from the original building. This is how the tolbooth may have looked around 1620 when Thomas Watson had completed the first phase of its construction. Finance came from the Common Good, loans and a local tax. However, the sheriff, the Marquis of Huntly, refused to contribute. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
