Catalogue Number D 8636

Category Photographs and Off-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Symbol stone from Sandness, Shetland This symbol stone was once built into the wall at Sandness Church. However, its current location is unknown. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. At the top was a rectangle. Below this was an arch. The lowest symbol is a mirror. The measurements may be inaccurate, as they appear to be slightly to small and out of preparation. They are the only set available however. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
