Scope and Content Elevation of Stirling Town-house (front), Stirling Stirling Town-house replaced a medieval tolbooth on the same site. Funding came from the Malt Tax. 'Hyeland oak trees' were used for the spire, and 'Fyne French glass' was ordered for the windows. The roof required repeated repairs. The entrance stair leads up to the first floor. Beneath the stair is a black hole reached by steps from the ground-floor. In 1785 the town-house's front was extended to the left of the steeple in a style seemlessly matching the rest of the building. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
