Scope and Content The parlour, Thomas Bonnar's house, No 7 Ann Street, Stockbridge, Edinburgh Ann Street, 'the jewel in the Stockbridge crown', is a small charming street with narrow front gardens, originally planned c.1814 as one of three parallel streets to be built in a new Georgian housing development on Sir Henry Raeburn's Stockbridge estate. The parlour, at the rear of the house, is furnished very much in the style of the Victorian era. The paintings and piles of books reflect Thomas Bonnar's keen appreciation and knowledge of art, and his interest in the study of medieval mural paintings. Thomas Bonnar was a decorator and art designer, and his family firm, Thomas Bonnar & Son, George Street, did much to raise the reputation of decorative painting in Edinburgh. His best work includes the decoration of Parliament Hall and St Bernard's Well. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
