Scope and Content Old Bank House, Ullapool, Highland Ullapool was refounded in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society who allocated plots and erected a pier, warehouses and an inn. Six years later, local herring stocks vanished and the town's economy collapsed. Its economy revived in the mid 19th century. Old Bank House was built in the early 19th century. The columns of its portico were probably intended to be in Roman Doric Order. Roman Doric is one of the mathematically defined architectural styles or Orders used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans during the Classical period and rediscovered by architects during the Renaissance.
