Scope and Content A broad open area before a creeper covered stone building with baronial features - turrets, arches, crow stepped gables. In 1570 a feud between the Murrays and the Mackays resulted in pillage of the town and ruination of the cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. The castle encompasses the tower of the latter, rebuilt in 1813, which served as a prison until 1880.
