Scope and Content Large rockery on slope above path with central obelisk, paths winding through and benches in alcoves. Rectangular pond at foot of obelisk. Gravel path, with benches, before flowerbed at foot of rockery. Lawn with formal flowerbeds along edge and down centre and small conifers. Large glasshouse in background beyond plant covered wall. Woods in distance. The 18th century mansion was built by the Hamiltons, then owned and added to by the Coats family in the late 19th century, finally sold to the town of Ayr in 1926 and became a hotel.
