Scope and Content Broch at Clickhimin, Lerwick, Shetland This broch is built on a promontory on the Loch of Clickhimin. It would have originally stood on a rocky islet connected to the mainland by a causeway, but the water-level was lowered during the 19th century. It is a multi-period site. This is a view of the site prior to excavation. Excavation revealed that different groups of people lived there over the centuries. Late Bronze Age farmers were followed by Iron Age immigrants. They were followed by Celtic settlers. Finds from the site include many domestic utensils and pottery. There is also a fragment of glass from a Roman bowl. This bowl was probably made in Alexandria in Egypt around 100AD. All the finds are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
