Scope and Content Stone circle and standing stones at Callanish, Isle of Lewis, Western Isles The stones at Callanish form one of the most impressive prehistoric monuments in Scotland. Built on the E shore of Loch Roag they comprise of a stone circle with four radiating rows of standing stones. There is also a chambered cairn within the circle. This is a view of one of the rows of standing stones. To the N, the double row consists of 9 and 10 stones, forming an avenue. The E and S lines contain 5 stones each and the W line has 4 stones.
