Scope and Content Broch at Dun Carloway, Isle of Lewis, Western Isles Dun Carloway is one of the best preserved examples of a broch in Scotland. In places it almost stands to its original height of about 9 m. It is possible to see the basics of its construction as part of the wall has fallen down. This view of the broch shows some of the building principles. The walls have a sloping profile and galleries in the space between them. The two openings in the inner wall may have been to let light into lower galleries. The entrance is on the N side. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
